Custom bushing housings from requirement to small batch

A client needed a custom housing for a bushing application where no suitable off-the-shelf component was available. Seked Labs developed the geometry, produced the engineering drawing and manufactured the parts in-house.

The requirement

The part needed to locate and support the bushing while fitting within the surrounding assembly. With no suitable standard component available, the housing had to be designed around the actual application rather than adapted from an existing part.

What mattered in the design

  • Maintain the required clearances around the assembly
  • Locate and support the bushing axis correctly
  • Incorporate a feature less than 1 mm thick
  • Remain practical to manufacture as a repeatable FDM part

The application and critical interfaces were translated into a purpose-designed housing.

Document the design

An engineering drawing was produced to define the part and the dimensions that mattered.

Manufacture the batch

The housings were FDM 3D printed in-house and produced as a repeatable small batch.

Outcome

The completed housings provided a practical custom solution without waiting for a bespoke conventional manufacturing route. The parts were designed, documented and manufactured within the client's required timescale.
